Acquitted of murder after 6-year legal battle

More than 6 years after Ismil Bin Kadar was arrested and charged for murder, Ismil was finally declared a free man by Singapore’s highest court.

In its judgment, the Court of Appeal has made several landmark rulings concerning such matters as police procedure in the recording of statements and the Prosecution’s duty to disclose material evidence.

One of the longest running criminal cases in recent times, Ismil’s trial had lasted 94 hearing days over a 3-year period. Thiru had been appointed by the Supreme Court under the LASCO Scheme to act for Ismil at his trial and appeal.
